"RoDean Self Portrait"

I created this piece as a model for a congenital blind boy so he could feel it and then my face for instruction on modeling in clay.

I found immediately that he had no concept of straight up or
down. With that in mind, I placed the edge of his hand from
his forehead to his chin, then moved it a degree at a time
while calling out the degree of angle. The result of of this,
was with a few hand position changes I could then talk to
him about direction of lines. I was very moved by his ability
to recall these directions and apply them to the project at hand.

It was an extremely rewarding journey for me and a very
successful effort.
